Encapsulants and Surfactants

Encapsulants and surfactants are used in asbestos and lead abatement projects. Encapsulation products, like asbestos and lead encapsulants, are applied to materials containing asbestos and lead to prevent the release of hazardous fibers. The encapsulants form a barrier that fully encases the hazard in a permanent coating. Surfactants, also called wetting agents, are used to penetrate through the asbestos contained material and hinder the release of fibers during removal.
